UCLA Students Give Back to Their Community With a Day of Service

Get excited about volunteer work and help those in need.
Moving into October, I just want to highlight a cool September story put out by CBS on their Evening News about a volunteer day at the University of California, Los Angeles. As a part of the largest, single-day volunteer campaign ever organized by any school, 4,600 UCLA students went to 26 work sites across the city. They cleaned up beaches, they cleared brush in parks, they repaired an old inner-city school and repainted it. There’s a quick blurb and an accompanying video about it if you follow the link to the CBS website, but I felt it’s a really inspiring story, and I hope many of you who read this get the chance to do a bit of volunteer work for your community. It’s refreshing to know that even broke college students in California (a state that’s the epitome of broke right now) can get out there and help a community that doesn’t have enough money or manpower to do these things for itself.
If you have a little extra time, why not go out and try to do something for your own community? You don’t need to be a part of a giant, school-wide group: find a food shelter, Habitat for Humanity, or those of you involved in religious or spiritual communities can find relief programs through those organizations. It just makes you feel good to help others. Besides, you’re probably just spending your time procrastinating on homework, anyway. Do you like to volunteer? Or maybe you say, “No pay, no way.” Leave us a comment or tell us your stories, we’d love to hear them.

I’ve really enjoyed reading your articles. You obviously know what you are talking about! Your site is so easy to navigate too, I’ve bookmarked it in my favourites
