Guess What Presidents Earn More than Twice the U.S. President

College PresidentJust saw this article about the rising number of College presidents are who making over six figures. Apparently, the number is up to 23 and could grow once economic times take a turn for the better. Of course, the survey that’s cited only applies to private colleges and universities, not public institutions. Yet, those are also paying huge sums to their presidents. For example, the articles claims Ohio State pays their Prez a cool million.

Now I’m all for paying top dollar for top talent. Private universities can pay their staff as much as they wish, after all they’re private. But if public universities are being subsidized by the taxpayer, than paying a lot for Presidents could become a bigger issue. I imagine that private schools pay based on performance, but what about public universities? Are there policies in place to ensure that million dollar presidents are delivering on lowering costs, increasing retention, improving education, etc.? What exactly are the requirements for earning a million dollars at a public university? Seems a bit egregious when you consider the President of the United States makes less than half of that. What say you? Do you think your President deserves a million dollar paycheck? Have they made significant improvements to your school to earn the big money?
