twitter_birdTwitter. It’s a phenomenon that’s recently swept the nation; your friends do it, your younger siblings probably do it, and unfortunately most likely your parents do it as well. It’s accessible by computer, mobile apps, or even just plain text messages. It’s a way to share short messages with everyone in the world–at once. Now that you’ve read my post on How to Use Twitter…and Why You Should, you are probably wondering what to do next. This post will help you decide that!

Facebook statuses were, before the advent of Twitter, the one place to broadcast your feelings–even if they simply had to do with how the weather was affecting your day. Now Twitter has revamped the style of Facebook and many of the other social networks. Twitter’s new updates allow you to instantaneously re-tweet any and every statement you find interesting on Twitter. This new button has made it easier to get followers and find more people with similar interests.

According to TwiTip, a great Web site for getting the hang of Twitter, the top 10 people beginners should follow are:

My top 10 include sites to help understand the ways of Social Networking on the Web, as well as news updates. In my opinion, Twitter is ideal for reading news on the go–it is a quick general update, which usually includes a link if you wish to read more. My list is perfect for all the news junkies out there, and honestly if you don’t have time to read the paper (because quite frankly who does these days) these will help you stay on top of the current events which is definitely vital in this day and age.

2. Good Morning America @GMA- Updates on news and events happening related to the television news show, Good Morning America

3. Skinny City @SkinnyCity- A great Web site and blog about healthy eating and living habits, directed towards City women, very Sex and the City Chic

4. Mashable @mashable- The BEST twitter to follow if you are interested in social networking and what’s happening in the world of tech. Their Web site is pretty good as well

5. Huffington Post @huffingtonpost– Updates from their site

6. ABC News @ABC – Breaking news updates and updates on news around the country

7. New York Times @NYTimes – Updates from their news site; if you search New York Times you will also find twitter handles for a variety of their sections and blogs

8. College Candy @CollegeCandy – A witty and fun Twitter to follow. They always have great tweets on the weekends, many of which you may have experienced yourself.

9. Artwiculate @artwiculate – A daily word Twitter, which allows you to tweet back with uses of the daily word.

10. Student Stuff @StudentStuff – Follow us, we update with some awesome tweets!!

    Gary Vaynerchuk is great – he has the best wine website out there. If you want to know about wine, he’s the guy. I didn’t know he was on twitter, but I’m glad I do now.
