money-and-graduation-cap-1-300x280They say money can’t buy happiness, but according to a recent survey a lot of college kids believe money is one of the main objectives of life. The survey, which is highlighted in this article in USA Today, comes from the University of California Los Angeles Higher Education Research Institute. It questioned 220,000 freshmen at 297 four-year institutions. The results showed a high degree of concern and anxiety around money. Whether it was choosing a college based on tuition costs or finding a school where graduates get good jobs, financial status was a critical element to their outlook on life.

In addition, 78.1% said that being well-off financially was their top objective, while 74.7% pointed to raising a family. Some have explained the recent worry over financial difficulty as a consequence of the economic downturn. Now more than ever, kids are being directly impacted by the finances of their parents, as well as the budgets of states. Being well-off would certainly make things easier in times like this. It might not make you happy, but it sure can clear the road of obstacles.
