Don't get lost navigating the transfer student path!

Getting yourself transferred from a junior college to a four-year university is a feat I doubt even Superman wants to tackle. Dealing with advisors on both sides of the transfer equation, attempting to get in contact with those academic individuals whose help you’ll require, and politely asking for letters of recommendation from your instructors is a college student’s kryptonite. But luckily, the glorious information super highway is here to rescue transfer students from being weakened and discouraged by the process!

If you know the four year university you want to attend, be sure to check out their transfer-student page – this can easily be found by Googling “University X Transfer Student,” or usually a standard link that rests upon the home-page of your college du jour. These pages are specially designed to hold all the information a transfer student could dream of wanting to know. For example, you can hit up the University of Arizona’s transfer student page and find out about requirements, course equivalency, and links to the Transfer Student Center!

Also easily accessible with a few keystrokes and clicks of your mouse are individual webpages regarding transfer questions and answers kept up to date by individual states! From New Jersey to California, you can Dora the Explorer it up by digging through all the information on tap at these pages to get all the information your curious heart desires.

Of course, the best thing you can do is plan to transfer from the start of your community college career; this way, you’ll already be meeting regularly with an advisor and know you are taking appropriate transfer-level classes and fulfilling the requirements of a transfer. And that way talking to an advisor isn’t challenging or intimidating – it’s just the norm.
