You Can Avoid Having Your Night be a “TFLN” Thank to Tiger Woods

6348-screenshot200911201018445Have you ever read a text from last night and said, “OMG I can’t imagine what I would do if my *insert crazy text situation here* text ever hit the Web?” Well, that could happen. You could be a victim of a vindictive ex, a sneaky frenemy or a smart competitor. That is, before TigerText. TigerText is a new iPhone application that allows the user to automatically set text messages sent via the application to delete in a minute, a day, or longer depending on your needs. It’s a free application, but costs $2.50 a month after the initial trial. I think the price of a coffee is definitely worth keeping your worst moments off the Web. Texts From Last Night provides countless hours of amusement for people who aren’t featured on it. Sexting, as it is called, is a phenomenon that has taken our generation my storm, and yet it could be what brings us down. Urban Dictionary.com defines it as “the act of text messaging someone in the hopes of having a sexual encounter with them later; initially casual, transitioning into highly suggestive and even sexually explicit.” The good thing about these texts is that they are only between you and your intended partner, right? Wrong. Texts can be forwarded my student friends, and once you are an adult having texts, images and other incriminating evidence against you can very well cost you a job. In fact if you actually do get a job (say as a pro-golfer who accepts endorsements) the lack of restraint could very well transfer into your adult personality.

Enter TigerText, a clever name for an even more clever app. It allows users to send text messages (be them sexual or otherwise incriminating) to anyone in their phone book and then it automatically deletes the application in a specific time range. Say you want to delete a text as soon as it’s read. You can’t control the other person’s phone memory, but TigerText can–provided they have an iPhone. According to Time magazine and Mashable.com’s reviews, this application is currently only available for the iPhone but should be coming to Blackberry and Android soon enough.

What do you think of this? Do you think it’s a great way to hide texts, or merely another way for our generation to get out of something they said? Sound off below, because I’m trying it out to review it, but have trained myself NOT to use the phone if I’m not 100 percent prepared to take responsibility for my thumbs and their words.
