Travel Internships: Go Beyond Your Environment
March 9, 2010 | VReitano
My interning days are (hopefully) over, but a classmate of mine is in her junior year and gearing up for the biggest internship of her life. The one she’s set on, is the most amazing opportunity I’ve ever heard of and I thought I should share it with my fellow students. Check out the information, and if you think she’s worthy vote for her this year, because next year it could be you and that would be pretty awesome. Internships in the summer between your junior and senior year are, in my opinion, the most important. They allow you to decide if you actually will be able to survive in your chosen field and also if you enjoy it. It’s also a great opportunity to learn about WHERE you want to work, because as they say it’s all about “location, location, location.” If you feel you are ready to leave the comfortable cocoon you’ve built on your campus, you might want to check out the STA World Traveler internship that’s run with MTVU.
My classmate, Jenna Uliano, applied for this internship because she felt that it was a great opportunity.
“Not only would this internship be an AMAZING opportunity for anyone, but I feel that I’ll be an asset to the STA team. I’ve done some pretty extensive traveling in my past—but this time around I’d like to stop seeing the world through a tourists eyes. I’m not sure what lens I’d like to see the world through, but that’s all part of the adventure, right? I’m on my own search for self-discovery and I’m looking to learn about cultures and countries through the people, not through textbooks,” said Uliano.
Uliano studied abroad via semester at sea and a result of that experience got a taste for adventure and the world outside of the East Coast. The experience in and of itself seems pretty amazing–it begins May 31 and ends August 11, and students are able to travel to a variety of places. For the 2010 semester it includes Peru, Brazil, Australia, Turkey, Egypt, Thailand, Japan, and Europe. The applications involve a video and a written submission, and then you need to get votes.
The deadline to submit was on Friday, March 5, so if you missed it check out the submissions and see who you think deserves to be STA’s 2010 World Traveler Intern. Only two interns will be able to go in the end and they and the two finalists will be announced on April 13. Also, there are other amazing opportunities out there; you just have to look!
If you like Uliano’s submission, vote for her, and if you happen to submit, tell me why. Email me at vreitano at gmail dot com, I’d love to hear what made you apply for this awesome out-of-the-box experience.
Best of Luck!
